How do royalties work with East Chamber Music (ECM)?
Under our 50/50 model, East Chamber Music registers as your publisher and collects 50% of the royalties, while you retain the other 50%. The total royalty is split equally between us.
This arrangement reflects the work we do to actively promote your music, secure performances, and market your works to choirs and ensembles, efforts that help generate more royalties for both of us.
What are these organizations?
SOCAN: SOCAN is the Canadian organization responsible for collecting and distributing royalties to composers, songwriters, and music publishers when their music is publicly performed or broadcast. It ensures that creators are fairly compensated for the use of their work.
OneLicense: OneLicense is a licensing platform that allows churches and other religious organizations to legally perform copyrighted music in services and events. It helps composers and publishers earn royalties from their music being used in worship settings.
How do score sales work?
We sell PDF versions of your music through our online store. We handle all the marketing, distribution, and customer service. Revenue from sales is split 50/50 between the composer and East Chamber Music. We promote your music to churches, community choirs, and musicians to help your work reach a wide audience.
Do I lose ownership of my music?
No. You always retain full ownership of your compositions. We are your publishing partner, not the owner of your works. You grant East Chamber Music the right to distribute, promote, and administer your music (for SOCAN and OneLicense purposes) under our publishing agreement.
What is the agreement term?
Our standard publishing agreement is non-exclusive for score sales (you can sell your sheet music elsewhere if you wish) but exclusive for SOCAN and OneLicense royalty management while under contract. This exclusivity is necessary because both organizations require a single designated publisher. You’re welcome to email us for a copy of the agreement to review. We encourage questions and want you to feel confident, informed, and comfortable before signing.
What kinds of music does East Chamber Music publish?
We specialize in Canadian sacred choral and vocal music, including spiritual settings of sacred poetry and mystical texts. We also feature folk songs and chamber selections.
How do I submit my music?
We are currently seeking both liturgical/sacred and spiritual/mystic choral and vocal music, including hymns, anthems, art songs, folk songs, and select small chamber pieces (4 voices or less).
We’re particularly interested in shorter works (under 6 minutes) that are accessible in style and well-suited for either professional, community, or church choirs, solo performers, recitals, or small ensembles. If your music is expressive and engaging, we’d love to hear from you!
To submit your music for consideration, please email us with a single PDF of your score and a streaming link to an audio recording or MIDI. YouTube links are preferred. Please note that MIDI renderings are not ideal, but still acceptable. We’ll review your submission to determine if it’s a good fit for our catalogue. If selected, we’ll be in touch to guide you through the next steps of the registration process.
